Extended Breastfeeding
The other morning I was listening to a radio talk show on my way to work and they were joking about a British documentary on extended breastfeeding. This radio show is targeted towards immature males-- and happens to be one of my favorites. (What does that say about me? I don't know!)
Anyway, I laughed along with them but it did spark my curiosity so I found a clip of the documentary on YouTube. Watching the report without the vulgar male comments and sound effects was a much different story. It was a serious news report without bias on a woman who chose to breastfeed her children until they chose to wean themselves. I am mixed on the issue, so I posted it and will let you decide for yourself.

I nursed my son til he was 15 months old, but an eight-year-old? That's kinda gross. The mom says it's the "child's decision" when to stop, and I disagree. It's the mom's body, and she's not doing her daughter any good by not setting appropriate boundaries.
I know what radio show you are talking about and I love them also. Even though they cracked jokes about it the entire time they played the clip, it is kind of hard to imagine an 8 year old still breastfeeding. I have a friend that let her kids breastfeed until they were 2 years old. It was their time together. I can see going till they are 2 years of age but I think that is about as old as I would go.

WHO says what is appropriate?.
this family is content in their healthy nurturing choices. we should be looking at people who nurture? their children on diets of fast foods and other toxic substances and practices
Disturbing on so many levels.
What the report over looks is that if it was an 8 year old boy she was hooking up to that breast she’d be arrested.
Bo there shouldn't be a set age, but if your child can spell “booby” it’s time to give it up.
Women in the AMAZON wouldn't breastfeed for that long. Our bodies do not need milk after age 3 (and they were never designed to digest cow’s milk.)
Once a child has successfully mastered the fork there is really no need to continue.
When your child can describe and draw pictures of your breasts it is way beyond time to call it quits. Sounds like more of an issue with the mother than the child. I'll bet this child calls the shots on more than just breastfeeding. I believe this is really a sickness with the mother.
That is by far one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen. That's abuse in my book. I think that family needs some serious help.
