The Lesson In A Bite
If you're wondering what the heck you're looking at, imagine my horror when I first saw this sight on my daughter's back. Yes, those are teeth marks on my child! She was bit! No, not by an animal... but by another child!O.k., so being the "first-time mother", my initial reaction was to completely freak out. Daycare called and warned me immediately after the attack, and told me they have never seen Rosa so upset. She actually stopped breathing for a moment before letting out the loudest blood-curdling scream they had ever heard from her tiny body. The bite broke skin. It left a welt. I was so sad, and immediately left work and rushed to daycare to embrace my little survivor. Matt and I were steaming mad...we called the doctor, we discussed pulling her from daycare, we...we...oh... whew... we didn't know what to do. But after a deep breath, and many conversations with other parents, we calmed down.
You see, I guess I just never realized (here's that "first-time mom" thing) that children bite other children. It just happens, especially when they're little. And I hear that parents feel even worse when it is your own child that is the biter.
So after this small crisis, I'm a little wiser, Rosa is a little tougher, and all is well again. To prove it, here's a look at how she's survived...

Ouch that looks terrible. Poor Rosa. I think it is awful both ways. Since my kid was the bitee and then eventually became the biter I can honestly say both ways feel just awful.
so sorry little rosa!! My son was 3 when he and his playdate had an incounter of the same'Eccept his friend had launched into his right cheek and would not let go!!!For by the grace of god there was no scaring,As for his playdate, Well he had to find another friend!! take-care little rosa!!!
I had a cousin that was a biter, he did it over and over again until one day he was on the receiving end! He never did bite again. Of course the story was funnier when his mother told it! I'll leave out the details:)
Glad you left your daughter in her daycare...it does happen! Doesn't make it right...doesn't make it the daycares fault...it's just part of life.
What a sweetheart! So sorry she got bitten by another child ... that's the downside of daycare!
Ouch! My son was a terrible biter, and I'm glad that daycare worked with us (and him) to try and put the kybosh to it. It tool a while, and I felt awful each time it happened.
That said, I don't think it's really a daycare thing. I think when little kids get together, unfortunately, there will be some biters and "bitees." After all, siblings often bite each other, especially if they are close in age! There was definitely some biting that went on in my family growing up ;-)
